Light My Candle, Rent

Light my candle pertenece al musical rock Rent, estrenado en 1996 en el off-Broadway. Este musical, escrito y compuesto por Jonathan Larson, ganó 4 premios Tony y el premio Pulitzer de teatro, y se hizo famoso  por el fallecimineto de su creador a los 36 años la víspera del estreno debido a un mal diagnóstico. Pronto pasó a Broadway y se convirtió, tras su última representación en septiembre de 2008, en el noveno musical más duradero en escena de Broadway. Además, se convirtió en un auténtico musical de culto. 

En 2005 Chris Columbus lo llevó al cine y tomó la sabia decisión de mantener a casi todo el inmejorable reparto original (Adam Pascal, Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp, Jesse L. Martin, Wilson Jermaine Heredia y Taye Diggs) excepto por Rosario Dawson y Tracie Thoms, que sustituyeron a Daphne Rubin-Vega y Fredi Walker, y que en mi opinión se convirtieron en las Mimi y Joanne más icónicas, como si fuesen las originales.

El musical está basado en  la ópera La Bohème, de Giacomo Puccini, y cuenta la historia de un grupo de amigos neoyorkinos a finales de los 80, en la época del boom del sida. Todos ellos artistas, viven en el Lower East Side, en la Alphabet City bohemia, con poco dinero y muchos sueños, y la mayoría de ellos están enfermos de sida.

El musical tiene grandísimos temas, y uno de mis favoritos es Light my candle, escena en la que se conocen Mimi (Rosario Dawson) y Roger (Adam Pascal). Ella, stripper adicta a la heroína, entra en su casa pidiéndole que le encienda la vela, y se establece entre ellos un diálogo musicalizado, en el que él intenta evitar sus acercamientos y esconder su atracción, y le reprocha su adicción pues él estuvo enganchado a las drogas en su día, y por ellas se truncó su carrera musical y murió su novia.

Ambos están espectaculares en esta escena, y en todo el musical en general, así que espero que disfrutéis el video (el de mejor calidad no me lo dejaba insertar,podéis buscarlo en youtube si queréis) y también la traducción, y por supuesto cantándola, porque es un tema dificilísimo de adaptar al español (pronto os daréis cuenta de por qué). :)

En el futuro subiré más traducciones de este musical, que es uno de mis favoritos, y quedan muchos grandes temas por traducir (ya existe traducción, pues se hizo en Barcelona,pero está muy poco cuidada).
